Chris Brown hits No. 1 with 'Deuces'

Published: Sep 5, 2010 by TRav2coOL Filed under: H3 Gossip vlog

Chris Brown returns to the top of the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for the first time since 2006, as "Deuces" jumps from No. 2 to No. 1 this week.

Hitting the top in just its ninth week on the list, it ties for the year's fastest climb to No. 1. In April, Monica's "Everything to Me" also raced to the penthouse in just nine weeks.

"Deuces" (featuring Tyga and Kevin McCall) is Brown's third No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs after his debut single "Run It!" in 2005 and the following year's "Say Goodbye." The latter reigned for six weeks, while "Run It!" spent two frames at the top.

Last month, Billboard reported that there was no official word from Jive, Brown's record label, as to when his fourth studio album will be released. The singer has tweeted that his next set may arrive in 2011 or sooner, possibly preceded by a mixtape. Brown's last album, 2009's "Graffiti," has sold 319,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Brown has been on a roll lately. In addition to his first No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs in nearly four years, he's also co-starring in the film "Takers," which was the highest grossing film at the U.S. and Canada box office last weekend (Aug. 27-29). It earned $20.5 million in its opening three days. "Takers" is Brown's first foray into film since the November 2007 holiday release "This Christmas."

This week, Brown tweeted a missive to his followers regarding his current successes: "Life has turned around for me. I couldn't be more happier. Thanks to the fans."

Nicki Minaj Talks New Album and Lil Wayne

Published: Sep 1, 2010 by TRav2coOL Filed under: H3 Gossip vlog

MTV reports, Nicki Minaj has a lot to be excited about these days. Not only is the Young Money MC gearing up for the release of her debut album in November, she's also featured on a new track with Jay-Z and Kanye West and celebrated a Twitter marriage (and divorce) with Drake.

But while the animated rapper remains busy, she is also anticipating Lil Wayne's release from prison. In a recent radio interview, Minaj spoke about her mentor and why she feels the need to make Pink Friday a success.

"Can you only imagine what he's been holding and what's building up in that brain?" Minaj asked Greg Street of Atlanta radio station V-103. "I'm afraid for anybody ... any of his competition when he gets out, because I just feel like it's going to be monumental. He's in a great state. When I speak to him, he sounds like he has some sort of clear understanding of everything now, almost like he's had some weird sort of epiphany since he's been there, so I'm sure his stuff is only going to get better."

When Lil Wayne left for prison, Minaj realized just how much he meant to his rap crew. "He didn't deserve to go in the first place, and it's kind of crazy how much of a void it's been without him," she said. "We didn't realize Wayne is really the glue that holds Young Money and Cash Money together, I feel. I'm just very, very thankful that he's finally coming home."

The 25-year-old MC is ready for the whole Young Money crew to take over the rap game. "We're just really, really hard workers, and you know what? At some point, I would hope the hard work pays off, at least on my end," she said. "It's definitely already paid off for Wayne and for Drake, so I want to thank everybody for supporting Young Money, period."

So what happens if the New York native falters with her debut album? "They won't look to sign other female rappers if the project doesn't do well, because they're going to say, 'Well, her buzz was so crazy, and if she couldn't do it, then no one can do it,' and I don't want that to happen. So I'm doing this as well for all the girls."

The Young Money darling is staying positive as she hopes to pave the way for the females to come in the rap game. "I hope it will open doors for all girls everywhere who ever wanted to pick up a mic and rap and who have been kind of afraid to do it," she said. "For a long time in my life, I was afraid to be a solo female rapper, because everyone told me, 'It doesn't work. It's not going to happen. Record companies are never going to invest in you just to get it. Just be part of a group.' "

Nonetheless, Minaj values her pre-album success, saying, "Even as far as I've come now is already a testament in my mind, so I hope the female rappers understand how big it is for our culture that the album does well."

Jay-Z and Kanye West Making Watch the Throne Album?

Published: Aug 30, 2010 by TRav2coOL Filed under: H3 Gossip vlog

Last week, Kanye West tweeted that he's planning to drop a new song every Friday until Christmas. On the first "G.O.O.D. Friday" (August 27), the lyricist announced he has some other new music coming down the pike: 'Ye said he's teaming up with Jay-Z to release a collabo album.

"Me and jay bout to drop a 5 song album called Watch the Throne," West tweeted. A rep for West didn't respond to MTV News' request for comment by press time.

The announcement comes on the heels of a Jay-Z-assisted remix of 'Ye's "Power" hitting the airwaves. After West announced in an August 11 interview that a revamp of the percussion-heavy track featuring Hov would arrive just two days later, the MC got to work on the collabo.

Trey Songz: Passion, Pain & Pleasure [Updated Tracklisting]

Published: Aug 30, 2010 by TRav2coOL Filed under: vlog

Below is the official tracklisting for Trey Songz upcoming release Passion, Pain & Pleasure, due out September 14th. Props to UB. I’m kinda surprised at the lack of features, but that may do him a lot better than Ready, which was trumped by the mixtape released prior, Anticipation.

It seems Trey’s altered his tracklisting slightly before the release date, possibly due to leaks surrounding the project so below I’ve updated with the official tracklisting. Not really much change other than the Swizzy and Tip collabo ‘I Like Dat (Freak Freaky Dance)’ has been replaced with ‘The Usual’ featuring Aubrey.
